The Arts Build Bridges
August 2015: Water in Kerala: Art, Performance, Science (WK), a pilot for an international arts training, outreach, and mini-festival program held at both SH of Thevara (Kochi) and Amritapuri Campus of Amrita University (Kollam, India), focused on sharing water stories through theater and dance. The project director, Kanta Kochhar-Lindgren, along with project partners Sen Jansen TF (Sacred Heart College of Thevara, Kochi) and Rag Saseendrababu (Sruthi School of Dance and Music, Kollam) collaborated with US artists Morgen Chang, Aaron Gabriel, Beth Graczyk, and Indian artist Jebin Jesmes. WK focused on generating new methods for exploring the intersections of performance and science through participatory cultural heritage experiences, such as storytelling, dance, theatre, musical theatre, and mixed performance modes. June-November 2014: Peering through the Windows of Hong Kong’s Cultural History: Ghosts, Water and the Marvelous at Kwun Tong Ferry Pier, Oct 29-Nov 2, 2014 Pier Windows, an interactive performance installation series at Kwun Tong Ferry Pier, took place from October 29-November 2, 2014. The project, spearheaded by Hong Kong artists Steve Hui (Nerve), Nadim Abbas and US/Hong Kong artist Kanta Kochhar-Lindgren, in partnership with soundpocket, ADAHK, and the YMCA of HK (CSW Centre), featured work from collaborations with Hong Kong, US and Indian artists as well as contributions from local community arts outreach projects. Engagement with multi-ethnic Hong Kong through a range of cross-cultural arts experiments in dance, music, and visual arts helped broaden understanding of the impact of the cultural heritages on the contemporary identity of Hong Kong. This project series was produced by soundpocket (Hong Kong), Artistic Research Collaboratives, and Folded Paper Dance and Theatre (Hong Kong, Seattle).
